A Right Bloody Mess

The end of 2017 saw the culmination of a great project , the publication of A Right Bloody Mess.

Intended Gaming Projects for 2015

What am I intending to achieve in 2015.

I have two written projects on the go that are about 40% complete so have atleast another 90% to go.

1. A Right Bloody Mess, the Australian Civil War.
2. A set of Skirmish rules that are very interactive.

Painting Projects:

1. 10mm Kings of War / Impetus - I have already painted considerable amount, but when is a project ever really over.
2. Saga Forces - Shield decals need application to complete 2 4point armies.
3. 10mm ACW - made a start but that is all so far, need to determin how I will base them.
4. Pulp War Americians - these are currently on the painting desk but only flesh and a few items of clothing has been done.
5. 2mm Battle of Blenheim - done my research and about 6 bases, so need to get my end in gear. Unfortuately painting 2mm can be a pain, but at least they are finished quickly. Given I intend to do the entire 10mile wide battlefield at a figure scale about 13:1 there are a few figures.
6.  A Right Bloody Mess. I need to decide a scale and get painting. I have an abundance of FOW figures, many of which will work well with no or minor modification so we will have to see if 15mm is trumped by 28mm. Eureka has some great 15mm figures that wil fit perfectly so that may be the deciding factor.
7. Chibi Miniatures. I have loads and paint each one individually rather than as a batch so they are of a higher standard than my normal. I want to be able to use them for D&D type encounters.
8. Sharp's Practice. I would like two small forces so I can get some fun in.
9. Bag the Hun - 6mm Aircraft. This is in the "just for fun/a change" basket.
10. Traveller 15mm - just keep building up small forces as I have a setting I would like to play in.

And on it goes. I will stop here and hope this me adding too much more to the pile before i finish any of the above. Admittedly most of the list is a never ending pattern as we all know just a few more units will always tempt us.

Lastly, as in 2014 I intend to buy figures only from Nic at Eureka Minitures plus any kickstarters that I cannot  resist (although I am getting better at this). My unpainted pile is sufficient to keep me healthy for a good many years.

2015 - lets paint like it was 2014.

Someone let time off the leash, not sure who but I hope someone catches it soon.

With the New Year I have decided I am going to join the TooFatLardies Painting Challenge. I need to stop and determine 2014s painting tally so I have a target. 2014 was a monumental year for painting.

I also managed to keep my promise not to buy figures except from Nic and a few Kickstarters, and not to buy any more Lego. I faithfully achieved the latter despite the temptations and I (and my wife) are amazed it was achieved, 2015 will also see no additional lego entering the house.

Here are my 10mm achievements:

Time Flies

My god, I am amazed that the last entry is 2010. Where did 4 years go?  My internal clock suggests 2 years have past at most. "Time has no meaning, especially lunchtime" (Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy).

On the up-side, I have had a great 6 months, both personally and hobby. I am painting far more, painting to a higher standard and basing looks better. Only downside is that as I age my eyes are failing, so I use magnifying goggles for everything now, even base-coating.

Hopefully I will get my current projects listsed and photos of my recent efforts.

PDF to PAPER!

Spend a lot of the day printing TooFatLardies and Ganesha Games rules from the PDFs.

This seemingly simple exercise is made diffucult by the fact that my brain is on holiday without me. Getting both sides printed, the right way up took up most of my time and paper.

So what did I achieve:

Blades & Heroes and Flying Lead were already printed in booklet form, I only had to print the cover and staple. Told you I didn't achieve much.

Flying Lead was the base set of rules used at Little Wars for the Victorian SF game.

Charlie Don't Surf!

TooFatLardies Vietnam Rules "Charlie Don't Surf!" and the associated "Surf's Up!" have been added to the virtual library.

I am looking at using 6mm figures, with each squad being represented by a 20x40mm stand. Support weapon will be based on 20x20mm, and civilians on round bases. Still to confirm the Big Men, but I expect that it will be by marker.

The question is GHQ or Irregular figures. Cost and convenience vs quality. Strangely I like Irregulars figures but am not that impressed with the vehicles. As for GHQ you have to buy by the set and support weapons are in a separate set. This means a minimum of $60 for infantry.

Convenience and supporting Nic of Eureka will probably win, although irregular infantry and GHQ vehicles and helicopters is a likely compromise.

Up & Crawling

It seems so long ago since the last Blog entry, 6 months, it seems like only a few weeks. Productivity wise it has only been a few weeks.

Other than 2.5 months in hospital during which I managed a few dwarves (still incomplete) I don't seem to have achieved much. I need to go back and catalogue where I am and hopefully find that I have spilt more paint than my feeble memory can place. As you can see my painting table is a pickle.

On the upside I have settled on a paint scheme for my Tyranid force and have a unit of 16 naked celtic fanatics that have been dipped and are awaiting a matte varnish. The photo is before dipping.

Hopefully this will not be a lone post.
